In The Beginning...Are religion and science at war?

Scientism (see the Magician's Twin)has caused many people to lose their faith.  Faith and reason cannot be opposed as they flow from the same truth, aka God.  Are Christianity and science at war with each other?  Are we now in the real "Dark Ages"?  Salvo takes this on:

In the Beginning

Episodes in the Origin & Development of Science

"Not according to leading historians. "The greatest myth in the history of science and religion holds that they have been in a state of constant conflict," wrote historian of science Ronald Numbers in 2009.1 Even though he and other historians of science have documented this conclusion thoroughly, many myths about the alleged warfare between science and theistic religion continue to be promulgated in popular literature and textbooks."

"This distinction is especially helpful when encountering statements from scientists that purport to be scientific but, on closer examination, prove actually to be theological, and thus outside the domain of science. Take the following statement by Stephen Hawking, for example, which appeared in his bestselling, co-authored book The Grand Design: "Because there is a law like gravity, the universe can and will create itself from nothing."2

God and Science - Is There a Conflict?

A five star video - God and Science - Is There a Conflict? Faith and reason cannot conflict where they intersect. Durston shows the logical necessity of a Creator and information. IDvolution agrees wholeheartedly - "God “breathed” the super language of DNA into the “kinds” in the creative act." Complex information was right there "in the beginning". The DNA language is super sophisticated with layering, efficiency and can be read forward and back. He cites several recent science papers.

God is the foundation of science and the universe.  His fingerprints are all over. "God and science are mutually enriching" - Durston

"There is a popular notion that as science advances, religion retreats. This is true of Greek mythology and superstitious beliefs, but is it true of Christianity? In this lecture given March, 2013 at Wilfrid Laurier University-Laurier Brantford, biophysicist Dr. Kirk Durston shows that science has failed to push back the major claims of Judeo Christianity pertaining to God and nature. Surprisingly, as science advances, the evidence in support of the major claims has actually increased."

Some heavyweight Oxford professors discuss and refute new atheist claims

This is worth watching - it is broken up into several parts. "Let's look at the big questions". Philosophy and the God debate Philosophy, Science and the God Debate: 'Science disproves the existence of God'. Scientists and philosophers interviewed: Alister McGrath (The Dawkins Delusion), Keith Ward (Why There Almost Certainly Is a God) and John Lennox (Gunning for God). This documentary shows Oxford professors responding and refuting the New Atheists, like Richard Dawkins (The God Delusion), Christopher Hitchens (God is not Great), Sam Harris (Letter to a Christian Nation) and Daniel Dennett (Breaking the Spell).

Same Evidence, Different Conclusions: Is "Objective Belief" an Oxymoron?

 An excellent video.

Same Evidence, Different Conclusions: Is "Objective Belief" an Oxymoron?

Science claims to be one of the few objective ways of understanding the world.  But science itself is deeply affected by our pre-existing beliefs and these a priori commitments color the way we assess the so-called 'evidence' for or against theism.  Come and hear Dr. Lennox discuss how it is possible for two people to examine the same data and come up with vastly different interpretations.  The lecture will be followed by an audience Q and A.
